When I’m lucky enough to be in an interesting place behind my camera, I gravitate to simple things: beauty of pattern and line; moody lighting; and ironic juxtaposition. Elegance of landscape inspires fresh perspectives on cities --their contrasts, history and complex vitality.
As Mayor of Shaker Heights, one of my passions was protecting cities and historic suburbs. Cities represent our shared history and memory. They are a springboard to future communal vitality.
All cities have endless visual interest-- from the colorful rust of our heritage; to the humor and drama of urban art or gatherings; and appealing details of beloved places.
Whether in cities or countryside, look for serendipity and serenity-- and then, the inspiration to protect our world.
